About Kerala Ayurveda Murivenna Thailam
The ancient tribal communities of Kerala are believed to have knowledge about several unique herbal formulations, many of which are passed through generations by word of mouth. Murivenna is one such authentic preparation, reference of which cannot be found in any of the classical Ayurveda treatises, yet widely used in practice. It is difficult to find a household without the stock of Murivenna in their first-aid kit. Such is the importance of this miracle oil in curing a variety of ailments. The name Murivenna comes from two Malayalam words, Murivu ? meaning, wound and Enna- meaning, oil. So, basically, Murivenna is an oil that helps in healing the wound. Prepared in coconut oil base, with the addition of Tandulambu(rice water), both of which have cooling properties, Murivenna rapidly reduces inflammation and is highly useful in injuries involving pain and swelling. The main ingredients in Murivenna like, Karanja patra (Pongamia pinnata), Sigru patra (Moringa oleifera), Kanya (Aloe barbadensis/ Aloevera) etc. have been mentioned in Ayurveda as herbs with wound healing and fracture healing properties.
